The Starr Building, located in downtown Austin will be largely restored to it's original state by Kemp Properties(Littlefield, and Scarbrough buildings). While not the most universally loved building in Austin it has a certain charm and certainly it has historical significance do to a Seymour Fogel mural and an interior designed by Florence Knoll.
The principle tenant for the restored building will be the advertising agency McGarrah Jessee. Kemp Properties has stated a desire for other design oriented business's to move into the building in order to "be a very energetic, creative center".
According to the Austin American Statesman "the project's design architect is San Antonio-based Overland Partners, ... while the interior design firm will be locally based McKinney York Architects."
This is an exciting development! The restored mural is absolutely gorgeous. I hope that the Buttrey building will receive the same level of sensitivity that the Starr building is receiving. I am not in favor of changes that are planned Buttrey's windows.
